Step 1: Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, stir together warm water and sugar.
Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5β10 minutes until foamy.
π No foam? Discard and try with fresh yeast.
Step 2: Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
Add yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a rough dough forms.
Step 3: Knead the Dough
Transfer to a lightly floured surface.
Knead for 8β10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Add flour, 1 tbsp at a time, if too sticky.
Step 4: First Rise
Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a towel.
Let rise in a warm place for 1β2 hours, or until doubled.
Step 5: Shape the Loaf
Punch down dough and shape into a loaf.
Place in a greased 9Γ5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise 30β45 minutes.
Step 6: Bake
Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
Bake for 25β30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 7: Cool & Slice
Let loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Cool completely before slicing for best results.
