1. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Melt the butter
Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven for a few minutes until completely melted. Carefully remove the dish.
3. Make the batter
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the milk and whisk until you have a smooth batter. Stir in the vanilla if using.
4. Pour in the batter
Pour the batter directly over the melted butter in the baking dish.
5. Add the peaches
Spoon the peaches evenly over the batter.
Important: Do not stir. The butter, batter, and fruit will naturally come together as the cobbler bakes.
6. Add cinnamon
If desired, sprinkle a little cinnamon over the peaches for extra warmth and flavor.
7. Bake
Place the dish in the oven and bake for approximately 50–60 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
8. Let it rest
Remove the cobbler from the oven and allow it to cool for 10–15 minutes. The filling will thicken slightly as it rests.
9. Serve warm
Spoon generous portions into bowls and serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Easy Variations
You can replace the peaches with cherries, blackberries, blueberries, apples, or a mixture of your favorite fruits. For fresh peaches, use about 5–6 medium ripe peaches, peeled and sliced, and add a little sugar according to their sweetness.
The result is a wonderfully simple, buttery fruit cobbler with crisp golden edges and a soft, tender center.
