Easy Breakfast Potato Patties

  • by

These golden potato patties are crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside, and simple enough for a quick breakfast. They’re naturally savory and can be made without added sugar. While this recipe can fit into a balanced eating plan, no single breakfast can specifically burn waist fat or guarantee weight loss.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs or oat flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil for cooking

Step 1: Cook the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into chunks.

Place them in a pot of salted water and cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

Drain them thoroughly and allow them to cool slightly.

Step 2: Mash the Potatoes

Transfer the potatoes to a large bowl.

Mash them until mostly smooth, with no large chunks remaining.

Step 3: Make the Mixture

Add the egg, shredded cheese, parsley, garlic, breadcrumbs or oat flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Mix everything together until you have a soft mixture that holds together when pressed.

If the mixture feels too wet, add another tablespoon of breadcrumbs or oat flour.

Step 4: Shape the Patties

Divide the mixture into 6–8 portions.

Shape each portion into a small oval or round patty about 1–2 cm thick.

Place the patties on a plate while you prepare the pan.

Step 5: Cook the Patties

Heat a little olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.

Place the patties in the pan without overcrowding them.

Cook for approximately 3–5 minutes per side, turning carefully, until both sides are golden brown and crisp.

Step 6: Serve

Transfer the patties to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serve them warm with plain yogurt, fresh vegetables, avocado, or a simple salad.

Helpful Tips

For extra-crispy patties, make sure the potatoes are well drained before mashing them. You can also refrigerate the shaped patties for 15–20 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape.

For a lighter version, cook them in an air fryer at about 190°C (375°F) until golden and crisp, turning halfway through.

Note: If your goal is weight management, portion size and the overall balance of your meals matter more than any single recipe. These patties can be part of a balanced breakfast without promising a specific amount of weight or waist reduction.
